Still Life with Grid
11” X 11”
2013
Statement: Still Life with Grid was inspired by an article in Quilting Arts magazine #58 featuring a unique trapunto approach by Diane Savona. Household items, including a penny, a popsicle stick, and a button were anchored to a thick felt base. I hand dyed a damask napkin from the thrift store. The damask weave allows for more bias which helps as you stitch the napkin around your objects. I added a few embellishments, then used Kantha stitch with some of my hand dyed pearl cotton to fill the area around the items, finishing off with some colourful French knots.
Materials/Techniques: Hand dyed damask napkin, trapunto with household objects, Kantha stitch, embellishments, French knots.
